Epoxy Garage Floors and Concrete Coatings in Pflugerville, TX

An epoxy floor in Pflugerville most often goes into housing built in 2000 or later, and three things decide how it is built: the slab's moisture reading, the cracks the ground has opened and the temperature on the day of each coat. Pflugerville's housing has a median year built of 2004 in table B25035 of the 2020-2024 American Community Survey, and by our sums of the table B25034 decade counts, 15,854 of its 25,627 housing units, or 61.9 percent, were built in 2000 or later. We grind, repair and coat garage, shop, warehouse and kitchen floors in this city on Farm Road 1825, "fifteen miles north of Austin in northeastern Travis County" in the Handbook of Texas, and we test each slab before we pick its system.

We visit, measure and test the slab before we send the written quote, and the quote costs nothing.

No price survey we cite covers Pflugerville, so every dollar figure on this page is a national one and none is our price. HomeGuide's epoxy flooring survey of February 3, 2026 sets the average installed rate at $4 to $10 a square foot, of which materials take $1 to $5 and labor $3 to $5; its polyaspartic survey of November 18, 2024 puts that resin at $5 to $12 a square foot. Each survey row, with its date, is on our national price table. The Pflugerville figure for your floor is our free written quote, which follows a visit to measure the floor, test the slab for moisture and look at every crack and joint.

Pflugerville's houses, building code, soil and history

Pflugerville's houses are young and mostly detached. Of the City's 25,627 housing units in the ACS 2020-2024 estimates, table B25034 dates 7,332 to 2000 through 2009, 7,279 to 2010 through 2019 and 1,243 to 2020 or later, against 5,530 from the 1990s, 3,298 from the 1980s and 542 from the 1970s; just 71 were built in 1939 or earlier. Table B25024 counts 18,866 one-unit detached houses, 73.6 percent of all units by our division. QuickFacts gives an owner-occupied rate of 69.9% and a median owner-occupied value of $402,400 for 2020-2024. For a floor, those dates matter twice: most of the city's housing dates from 2000 or later, and the newest slabs still need the cure and shrinkage checks set out in the flake section below.

Pflugerville builds to the 2021 International Codes. Section 150.02 of the City's Code of Ordinances, its "City Construction Code," adopts the "International Residential Code, with amendments, with appendices H and J, 2021 edition," and takes the International Building Code and the International Existing Building Code in their 2021 editions and the electrical code in its 2020 edition; the latest ordinance in its history note is Ordinance 1544-22-03-22, passed 3-22-22. The section does not print the amendments, and none of its headings mention section R105 (work exempt from permit), finish work, painting, tiling, carpeting or flooring. The City's Building Inspections & Permits page names no code edition and lists no exempt work, and its Residential Building Applications & Guidelines page is silent on flooring too. Ask the City's building inspections office before a floor job starts, and we plan the work around its answer.

The Handbook of Texas describes the prairie along Gilleland Creek, which runs through Pfluger Park and Gilleland Creek Park in Pflugerville, as "flat to rolling" with "local steep slopes and clay and sandy loams." Its Travis County entry says the Balcones Escarpment divides the county but does not place Pflugerville on either side, and no source we cite names the soil series under the city, so the soil under a given lot is a site question. Two Blackland clays in the USDA's official series descriptions, neither placed here by our sources, show what such ground can do: Heiden carries "High shrink-swell potential," and Houston Black, when dry, opens cracks "ranging from 1.25 to 10 cm (0.5 to 4 in) wide" that "remain open for 90 to 150 cumulative days in most years." A slab over clay that shrinks and swells can crack again after a repair, so we check each crack for movement before we choose its filler.

Pflugerville is named for Henry Pfluger, who brought his family to the area from Germany in 1849, the Handbook of Texas says, and it grew late: incorporated in the 1960s (1965 in the Texas Municipal League directory), it was "the fastest-growing community in the state" from 1980 through 1988, and the Texas Almanac figures on the entry climb from 745 residents in 1980 to 65,191 in 2020. Today it is a home-rule city in Travis and Williamson counties, with a Census Bureau estimate of 68,316 residents for July 1, 2025.

Flake epoxy floors for Pflugerville garages built since 2000

A full-broadcast flake floor fits a Pflugerville garage once the slab tests dry and its cracks are known, and the test result also picks the resin under the chips. Laticrete's wording for a full broadcast is chips thrown "to refusal or rejection (full coverage)," with no resin showing, and each flake is about 5 mils thick on Torginol's data sheet, where a mil means one-thousandth of an inch. In Laticrete's TDS 432 guideline for a polyaspartic chip floor, a 4 mil pigmented base goes down at 330 square feet per gallon, chips go in at about 400 square feet per 55 pound box, the floor is scraped once dry, typically after 1 to 2 hours, and one clear coat spread at 160 square feet per gallon seals it. Our flake epoxy floors page sets out the epoxy-based build layer by layer.

The age of a Pflugerville slab helps set the schedule. Table B25034 counts 1,243 of the City's housing units built in 2020 or later; on slabs that new, Sherwin-Williams' Form G-1 says "the industry standard for curing concrete is 28 days" yet "This is not always sufficient time to allow excess moisture to leave a concrete slab," and a rule of thumb in Metzger/McGuire's bulletin T5 puts a slab's first-year shrinkage at roughly 70 to 90 percent of all it will undergo. So we read moisture by the test the base coat's sheet names and grind with diamond tooling, not acid, to the profile the system lists; on a recent pour, joint filling waits, as the bulletin reports ACI and PCA recommend. HomeGuide's February 2026 national rows put a one-car garage at $1,200 to $3,900 and a three-car garage at $2,300 to $8,600.

Polyaspartic and polyurea coatings in Pflugerville's summer heat

A polyaspartic coating, which Laticrete's FAQ calls an "aliphatic polyurea," suits a Pflugerville garage that cannot stay empty for long, or one whose open door takes the afternoon sun, as long as the slab passes the maker's moisture limit. Laticrete says polyaspartics "may dry in a matter of hours or less" and "provide for next-day return to service," and that "most polyaspartics are UV stable and are suitable for exterior applications." Epoxy is the weaker resin in sunlight: Sika's Sikafloor-264 sheet says its epoxy "Will discolor over time when exposed to sunlight (UV)." Polyurea, the related fast resin, can serve as the base: Citadel applies polyaspartic "as a top coat over epoxy or polyurea bases." HomeGuide's November 2024 national row for a two-car polyaspartic garage is $2,000 to $6,900, and our polyaspartic floor coating page compares the resins in detail.

No NOAA normals in our sources are for Pflugerville; the ones we cite are Austin's, from the Camp Mabry and Austin-Bergstrom stations, and they are outdoor air readings. In the 1991-2020 normals, Bergstrom averages 123.5 days a year that top out at 90 degrees F or hotter and Camp Mabry 122.8; Bergstrom's normal high is 96.1 degrees F in July and 97.0 degrees F in August. Citadel's comparison table lets its polyaspartic grout coat go down from "0 degrees F - 90 degrees F+," so on a Pflugerville summer day the slab reading decides, checked with the air temperature and dew point, the point below which a cooling surface gathers condensation. Bergstrom's normals also count 33.0 days a year when the daily low is 32 degrees F or lower, and Citadel lists its epoxy at "> 50 degrees F" only.

Metallic epoxy floors for Pflugerville game rooms and garages

A metallic epoxy floor suits a Pflugerville room when the slab under it is smooth, dry and stable, because the clear coat shows what lies beneath. Laticrete's pigment data sheet DS-85.7-0819 lists "Residential Garages" among its uses and doses the powder at "8 fl.oz. per mixed gallon of resin"; the swirl forms as the coat cures, and the same sheet requires "Mock-ups and field test areas." Sherwin-Williams lays a pigmented base first as the "canvas" and notes that its color "will influence the overall appearance of the floor." Westcoat limits its Liquid Dazzle system to interior use and allows light foot traffic after 12 hours, normal traffic after 24 hours and vehicles after 72 hours. Our metallic epoxy floors page covers thickness and cure.

Movement under the slab is the risk to weigh in Pflugerville, where the Handbook of Texas describes clay and sandy loams along Gilleland Creek. ICRI's repair terminology calls a crack active when "the mechanism causing the cracking is still at work," and a smooth metallic film cannot hide one that keeps opening, so we mark every crack, fill the dormant ones before the base coat and tell you which may still read through. Fisheyes, pinholes and outgassing that come from site conditions, sunlight and dew point among them, "are not product defects" in Laticrete's words, so each coat goes on only after we have measured the slab and air readings.

Commercial epoxy flooring for Pflugerville warehouses and shops

For a Pflugerville warehouse, shop or showroom, the wheels, the spills and the hours the business can close pick the resin system. The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation says "State highways 45 and 130 and Interstate Highway 35 offer direct access to other nearby cities," and its January 2021 news item reports recruiting a bulk fulfillment center, "a 3.8MM square foot facility bringing 1,000 jobs to the community." In the Census Bureau's 2023 County Business Patterns, Travis County had 747 transportation and warehousing establishments with 24,756 employees, and Williamson County, the City's other county, had 350 with 4,098. For wheeled traffic, Sherwin-Williams describes a slurry system as "a thickness between 1/16 and 1/8 of an inch that holds up to most wheeled traffic." Thin films through troweled mortars are compared on our commercial epoxy flooring page.

Aisle marking and tax come with a Pflugerville commercial floor. OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.176(a) says "Permanent aisles and passageways shall be appropriately marked," and OSHA's 1972 letter on aisle marking lets the lines be "any color so long as they clearly define the area considered as aisle space," at "any width 2 inches or more." On tax, Texas Comptroller publication 94-116 makes "the total amount charged" for nonresidential repair or remodeling taxable, and publication 94-105 says to collect local tax "based on the location of the job site." The Pflugerville Economic Development Corporation's taxes page lists, per dollar, $0.0625 for the State, $0.0100 for the City, $0.0050 for the corporation and $0.0050 for Travis County ESD #2, a total of $0.0825, and the Comptroller's Sales Tax Rate Locator checks a rate by address. Our quote shows the tax line; the Comptroller has the final word.

Restaurant kitchen and brewery floors in Pflugerville

A Pflugerville restaurant kitchen or brewhouse needs a floor that meets the State's food rules and takes hot water and grease, and urethane cement is the system the makers write for those rooms. Texas adopts the 2017 FDA Food Code in its Food Establishment Rules (25 TAC Chapter 228, in force since August 8, 2021), and the State health department's Quick Reference turns Food Code 6-101.11(A)(1) into floor materials that "shall be smooth, durable, and easily cleanable," with each floor-wall joint "coved and closed to no larger than 1 mm (one thirty-second inch)" under 6-201.13(A), coved meaning curved rather than square. The Census Bureau's 2023 County Business Patterns count 3,712 accommodation and food services establishments in Travis County and 1,375 in Williamson County, the City's two counties. Drains, cove base and kitchen closures are on the restaurant and brewery floors page.

Cementitious urethane, which the trade shortens to urethane cement, goes on far thicker than a garage coating and tolerates more slab moisture. Poly-Crete HF, per Dur-A-Flex's product data sheet of June 2013, is "a 100% solids, aromatic, cementitious urethane system," typically "1/4 -3/8 inch thick," laid over slabs emitting "up to 20 lbs/1,000 sf/24 hrs" and on "7-14 Day Old Concrete," with "Light Traffic 6-8 hours" and "Full Service 3 - 5 days." The sheet suits it to application between 50 and 85 degrees F, while the normal monthly highs at Austin's Camp Mabry and Bergstrom stations pass 85 degrees F from May through September, in outdoor air, so a kitchen is measured on the day. Ask the City which health office reviews a Pflugerville kitchen's plans before work starts.

Stained concrete floors and patios in Pflugerville

A stain suits a Pflugerville slab that is sound and bare, because the color forms inside the concrete and every patch, crack and glue mark stays in view. For Pflugerville patios and indoor slabs alike, the color comes from one of two liquids the ASCC Concrete Polishing Council's glossary describes: acid stain, a "Reactive solution of one or more metal salts stabilized by acid that produces coloration in a concrete substrate," and dye, which "penetrates into the concrete while it is in solution." A film on the surface keeps the stain from the concrete, so old sealer, paint and adhesive come off first by diamond grinding; Sherwin-Williams says acid etching "cannot remove curing compounds or many contaminants found in industrial settings." Our stained concrete floors page compares the stains and their sealers.

Outdoors, water decides how a stained Pflugerville patio ages. Euclid Chemical's efflorescence bulletin says secondary efflorescence, the salts water carries to the surface and leaves behind, comes "primarily by water that travels through the concrete after rain, from irrigation, or the surrounding soils," and that "Diverting moisture away from the slab helps as well." NOAA's 1991-2020 normal precipitation at Camp Mabry, an Austin station, is 36.25 inches a year. HomeGuide's February 2026 survey says stained concrete "should be sealed every 1 to 3 years" and puts the national cost to stain an existing slab at $3 to $15 a square foot. We tell you before work starts which marks will still show.

Polished concrete for Pflugerville warehouses, shops and homes

Polishing suits large, hard slabs such as Pflugerville warehouse and shop floors, because survey prices per square foot fall as the floor grows and the finished surface carries no coating to wear through. HomeGuide's February 2026 survey shows the rate falling with size, from $8 to $15-plus per square foot below 1,000 square feet to $3 to $6 above 5,000. The ASCC Concrete Polishing Council's glossary puts grinding at "100 grit or lower," honing "within the 100-400 grit range" and polishing at "800 grit or higher," and a densifier, a silicate liquid that reacts in the concrete to harden it, goes on along the way. Our polished concrete floors page explains gloss levels and stone exposure.

Hardness and wet grip decide whether a Pflugerville slab should be polished. The hardness test comes from ACI 310.1-20 Section 3.1.4.1, as the Council's Position Statement #7 quotes it: "Mohs Hardness measured on slab surface is greater than 4," and where a surface is weak, a densifier is one remedy the Council names. For a shop or showroom that gets wet, Position Statement #2 reports that wet polished concrete "significantly exceeded the required DCOF of 0.42, even at very high gloss levels," DCOF being the dynamic coefficient of friction a slip test measures. Grinding raises respirable crystalline silica, which OSHA's 29 CFR 1926.1153 limits, so our grinders are fitted with the vacuum collection that rule's Table 1 sets out for walk-behind floor grinders, and indoors a HEPA vacuum clears dust between passes.

Concrete resurfacing for Pflugerville's 1980s and 1990s slabs

Concrete resurfacing gives a worn Pflugerville garage, shop or patio slab a new cement-based surface, which a coating, stain or polish then covers. By our sums of the table B25034 counts, most of Pflugerville's housing built before 2000 dates from the 1980s and 1990s: 3,298 units from the 1980s, the boom years the history above describes, and 5,530 from the 1990s, against 542 from the 1970s and 403 from all earlier decades together. Quikrete's Re-Cap data sheet, revised January 2023, applies "from feather edge of 1/16 in to 1/2 in" in layers "each not exceeding 1/4 in," at air and slab temperatures of "50 degrees F (10 degrees C) to 90 degrees F (32 degrees C)." Our concrete resurfacing page compares resurfacers with self-leveling toppings.

A slab can be past resurfacing, and the signs are visible. Wolverine Coatings' preparation bulletin says "A slab that is crumbling, rocking back and forth, heaving, or sinking is an unlikely candidate for coating without repair," and ARDEX's CD data sheet warns that "Cracks may telegraph up into the surface in any area that exhibits movement." A heaved or sunken panel needs lifting or replacing before any overlay goes on. HomeGuide's February 2026 figures, all national: resurfacing $3 to $7 a square foot, mudjacking $3 to $6, a new slab $4 to $8, so the slab's condition, more than the price, picks among them.

Pflugerville floor coating questions

Does a Pflugerville garage floor coating need a building permit?

The City of Pflugerville's published pages do not answer that, so ask its building inspections office before work starts. Section 150.02 of the City's Code of Ordinances adopts the 2021 International Residential Code "with amendments," but the amendments are not printed there, and no heading in the section mentions section R105 (work exempt from permit) or flooring. The City's Building Inspections & Permits page lists no exempt work either. Another city's exemption list does not carry over to Pflugerville, so the City's own answer goes into our schedule.

What do Pflugerville garage floor coatings cost?

No survey we cite publishes a Pflugerville price, so start from the national rows and expect the surveys to disagree. Forbes Home's garage table, updated February 7, 2025, runs a 2-car garage from $1,300 to $3,100 with an average of $2,200, and a 3-car from $2,100 to $5,000 with an average of $3,550; HomeGuide's garage coating survey of December 24, 2024 puts its 20x20 two-car row higher, at $1,600 to $4,800. This Old House's March 2026 page adds $25 to $250 for patching chips and small cracks. The figure for your Pflugerville garage is the one in our written quote, after the slab visit.

Is there sales tax on garage floor coating in Pflugerville?

Texas Comptroller publication 94-116 says labor to repair or remodel a home is not taxable, and the contract type decides who pays tax on materials. Its words: "Labor to repair, remodel, or restore residential real property is not taxable." With a lump-sum contract, "one price for the entire job," the publication has the contractor pay tax "on all your supplies, materials, equipment, and taxable services when you buy them" and adds "You don't charge your customer tax"; with a separated contract, the contractor collects "state sales tax, plus any local tax" on the materials charge. Our quote states the treatment, and the Comptroller or a tax adviser has the final word.

How soon can I drive on a coated garage floor in Pflugerville?

The products on your floor and the slab temperature set that time, and we give it to you in writing. HomeGuide's February 2026 survey advises against driving on new epoxy for 2 to 7 days, and Sherwin-Williams' Resuflor Deco Flake SB system takes light traffic only after 24 hours "at 75 degrees F, 50% relative humidity," reaching full properties over 14 days. Its Deco Flake II package keeps water off a new floor for 24-48 hours. Heat shortens the working time of a mixed batch: the Resuflor MPE epoxy table runs from "40 min" at 65 degrees F to "15 min" at 90 degrees F. Our pros and cons guide covers curing in the heat.

Will cracks in a Pflugerville slab come back through a new coating?

Cracks that still move can, and we tell you which ones before work starts. ICRI's repair terminology separates a dormant crack, one "not likely to become active in the future," from an active one, "still moving," and Sherwin-Williams has moving joints honored, saw-cut up through the finished floor, rather than coated over. On shrink-swell clay the ground keeps changing: the USDA writes of Houston Black that "Water enters the soil rapidly when it is dry and cracked, and very slowly when it is moist." We fill dormant cracks before the primer and honor or flexibly seal the active ones.

The 1904 Missouri, Kansas and Texas track between Georgetown and Austin passed just outside Pflugerville, the Handbook of Texas says. Our Austin home page and our Round Rock and Georgetown pages each give that city's own Census counts and, where its pages could be read, its own building rules, since each city here runs its own building department and none of their rules applies in Pflugerville.
