Epoxy Flooring and Garage Floor Coatings in Cedar Park, TX
Garage floor epoxy in Cedar Park mostly goes into housing built in 1990 or later: by our sums of the decade counts in table B25034 of the 2020-2024 American Community Survey, that is more than eight in ten of the city's 29,364 housing units, and 19,359 of them, or 65.9 percent, date from 2000 or later. The same survey sets the median year built at 2005 (table B25035), close to Williamson County's 2006. Age does not stop a slab from moving: the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association notes that concrete "contracts and expands with changes in moisture and temperature." So three readings on site decide the system we propose: how much moisture the slab gives off, how its joints and cracks behave, and how warm the air and the concrete are when the coats go on.
We build flake, polyaspartic, polyurea and metallic garage floors, coat commercial floors and kitchens, and stain, polish and resurface concrete; each section below takes one of those services and what Cedar Park changes about it. Every survey price we give is national, because no survey we cite publishes a Cedar Park figure. This Old House's March 2026 page, for one, gives $3 to $12 a square foot for epoxy laid by a contractor, and our floor coating cost page puts that row beside the others. We come out first, measure, test the slab, and then send a free written quote with the products, steps, dates and price, and any moisture-mitigating primer on a line of its own. Use the contact page to set up the visit.
Cedar Park's housing, permit list, aquifer zones and quarry past
By the Census counts, more of Cedar Park's housing was built in the 2000s than in any other decade. The 2020-2024 American Community Survey's table B25034 has 10,384 units from 2000 to 2009, which works out to 35.4 percent of the total, then 8,402 from 2010 to 2019 and 5,882 from the 1990s; only 573 date from 2020 or later, and the 1980s left 2,433. Detached single-family units, 21,300 in table B25024, work out to 72.5 percent of the 29,364 units, the same share Williamson County's own counts in that table produce. QuickFacts sets the owner-occupied rate at 66.7 percent. By those counts nearly all of these houses are past their first year, the stretch in which a Metzger/McGuire rule of thumb places roughly 70 to 90 percent of the shrinkage a slab is expected to undergo.
The City of Cedar Park's page on which projects need a permit states the rule "A permit is required for any construction which physically changes or adds structures to the property." Its no-permit list, which the City says includes "but are not limited to" the items shown, names house painting, carpet, cabinets, wallpaper, non-structural roof covering and fencing, and leaves out tile, coatings, concrete flatwork, driveways and slabs altogether. The page adds "These lists are not comprehensive" and asks owners to call before starting any work, so confirm a floor job with the City first. Cedar Park builds to the 2021 International Residential Code with local amendments, effective June 1, 2022, under section 3.01.001 of its Code of Ordinances; the only local change that section shows to the code's exempt-work list, section R105.2, rewrites the fence item to fences not over 8 feet high.
The City says "A majority of the City of Cedar Park is located either within the Recharge or Contributing Zone of the Edwards Aquifer," on its floodplain and stormwater page, which also notes a Stormwater Master Plan adopted in 2019. TCEQ's guide RG-011 defines the recharge zone as "the area where geologic layers of the aquifer are exposed at the surface" and the contributing zone as the watersheds whose runoff feeds streams that cross it, and the Texas Water Development Board adds that rapid recharge through the karstic outcrop "increases the aquifer's vulnerability to contamination." For the soil, the Handbook of Texas places loamy soils with limey subsoils west of the Balcones fault in Williamson County, and it does not name Cedar Park. Our slab preparation is diamond grinding with dust collection, so no acid rinse runs off the floor.
The Handbook of Texas says the community and its creek were named Running Brushy in earlier days, after "a heavy-flowing spring" at the creek's headwaters, and a post office was authorized for the settlement in February 1874. In 1882 the Austin and Northwestern Railroad was completed from Austin to Burnet, and the railroad company renamed the community Brueggerhoff; from the 1890s until about 1970, building limestone was a major local product, with cedar fence posts beside it. Ranch land began to give way to housing in the 1960s; between 1970 and 1980 the population went from 125 to over 3,000, and residents voted to incorporate on February 24, 1973. The 2020 Census counted 77,595 people and the July 2025 estimate 79,032. The Handbook puts the city on Cluck Creek and U.S. Highway 183, some sixteen miles northwest of Austin, and the City's 2020-2021 financial report says 17 miles from downtown.
Flake epoxy floors for Cedar Park garages built in the 2000s
The 2000s left Cedar Park 10,384 housing units, and a garage slab that has carried cars for years needs its top surface ground away before a flake floor goes on. Wolverine Coatings says finished concrete "is actually weakest at the surface," in the skin called laitance, and an H&C article on hot-tire pickup adds that paraffin from tires "embeds in the cementitious material, creating a rubberized barrier, or bond breaker, over time." Diamond grinding takes both off. The broadcast system follows: Sherwin-Williams describes its Resuflor Deco Flake II as "100% solids epoxy body coats" carrying vinyl chips under a urethane topcoat, and says a double broadcast gives "a nominal system thickness of 60 mils," a mil being a thousandth of an inch.
Garage prices here come from national tables, since no survey we cite reaches Cedar Park: HomeAdvisor's June 2026 garage table runs from $1,500 to $6,000 for two cars on 500 square feet and from $2,250 to $9,000 for three cars on 750. After the last coat, the Deco Flake II package says "Do not allow any water on the coated surface for 24-48 hours" and keeps chemical spills off for about 5 days, so the garage stays dry and clear through that stretch. Flake also adds grip: Torginol says "FLAKE texture provides anti-slip qualities," and Sherwin-Williams lists a wet dynamic coefficient of friction above 0.42 under ANSI A326.3 for that system. Our flake epoxy floors page details each layer.
Polyaspartic and polyurea for Cedar Park patios and sunny garages
Polyaspartic is the resin to look at when a floor sits in sun or has to reopen within a day, since its makers sell it on UV stability and cure speed. Laticrete says "most polyaspartics are UV stable and are suitable for exterior applications," while Citadel's comparison table answers "No" for epoxy under UV resistance. Laticrete's low-VOC Spartacote Flex Pure, listed below 100 g/L of VOC against the federal floor-coating limit of 400 g/L in 40 CFR Part 59, Subpart D, opens to walking in 3 to 4 hours and returns to service in 24 hours, times the sheet bases on 70 degrees F and 50% RH. Our polyaspartic floor coating page sets polyaspartic against epoxy in full.
Heat sets the working limits. The 1991-2020 NOAA normals for Camp Mabry, an Austin station, give an August normal high of 97.8 degrees F and an average of 28.7 days a year with a high of 100 degrees F or more, Austin outdoor air figures rather than Cedar Park slab readings; Westcoat's EC-101 polyaspartic sheet says not to apply it when ambient or substrate temperatures are "below 50 degrees F or above 85 degrees F." So on a Cedar Park job we check air and slab temperatures and the dew point before any mixing, and keep each coat inside the sheet's range. For price, HomeGuide's September 2025 page puts polyurea at $5 to $10 a square foot, national, and its November 2024 polyaspartic page prices a three-car garage at $2,900 to $10,400.
Metallic epoxy in Cedar Park game rooms and slab-on-grade living areas
Metallic epoxy is a clear resin loaded with aluminum platelets coated in metal oxides, which Laticrete's pigment sheet (DS-85.7-0819) says are "dispersed into any clear Epoxy or Polyaspartic resin" at 8 fluid ounces per mixed gallon; the swirls form as the coat cures, so no two floors match. The same sheet requires mock-ups and names "Residential Garages" among the uses. It also warns that sunlight, humidity, dew point and temperature on the job "may lead to fisheyes, blistering, pinholes, wrinkling, or outgassing," so timing matters in a sunlit Cedar Park room, and Sherwin-Williams' instructions for its quartz floors say to coat "while temperature is falling to lessen off gassing."
Cedar Park's permit page draws a line around these rooms: the City requires a permit for "Remodels (relocation or removal of interior walls, and/or electrical, mechanical, or plumbing)" and exempts carpet and house painting, but a poured floor finish appears on neither list, so ask the City before work starts. Upkeep is light but regular. Westcoat says its Liquid Dazzle metallic system "should be resealed with the appropriate Westcoat topcoat every 3 to 5 years depending upon traffic and UV exposure," and its indoor floors take daily dust mopping or a cleaner of neutral pH. Bob Vila's April 2024 add-on table, national and for materials only, lists metallic epoxy at $5 to $12 a square foot. Base colors and topcoats are covered on our metallic epoxy floors page.
Commercial epoxy flooring for Cedar Park's medical center, arena and employers
Cedar Park's commercial floors include a regional medical center and a City-owned arena. The principal employers list in the City's 2020-2021 financial report is headed by LISD at 953 and CP Regional Medical Center at 605 and also names Firefly Aerospace at 225; the arena seats 8,700 and opened as Cedar Park Center in 2009. Where a floor must reopen in hours, Dur-A-Flex says its MMA, or methyl methacrylate, systems "achieve full cure and chemical resistance in one hour," though Sherwin-Williams notes MMA "has a strong odor" and is "sensitive to water." HomeAdvisor's June 2026 page prices commercial and industrial floors at "$12 or more per square foot," national. Our commercial epoxy flooring page compares the systems.
Tax follows the type of property, and the Texas Comptroller's city table lists Cedar Park under both Travis and Williamson County, with a local rate of 2 percent and a total of 8.25 percent. Its list of additional city taxes shows a 4A and a 4B tax of 0.5 percent each starting October 1, 1999, and the city is among those that withdrew from the Austin MTA. Comptroller publication 94-116 counts hospitals and retail shops as nonresidential, a category whose full repair or remodeling price is taxable. We list the tax treatment on the written quote, and any doubt about it goes to the Comptroller or a tax professional. In working buildings, federal OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.176(a) says permanent aisles must be "appropriately marked."
Commercial kitchen flooring for Cedar Park restaurants and breweries
Cedar Park kitchens follow the State's food rules, which adopt the FDA Food Code 2017, and the floor items sit under inspection item 45 of the DSHS quick reference: "Floors criteria if using water flush cleaning methods," "Porous floor covering use limited" and "Floor covering, mats and duckboards." Drainage falls under item 44, "Establishment drainage systems designed and installed," and upkeep under Food Code 6-501.11, which reads "The physical facilities shall be maintained in good repair." Sherwin-Williams describes cementitious urethane finishes as "thermal shock resistant, moisture tolerant, and highly acid and alkali resistant" and says food and beverage processors use them more than any other material. Our restaurant and brewery floors page details cove base and drains.
The slab decides which urethane cement fits. Sika's Sikafloor 22NA PurCem sheet typically installs the floor at 3/16 to 1/4 inch, rates it from -40 to 212 degrees F, wants ambient humidity between 30 and 85 percent while it goes down and cures, and allows slabs reading below 100% relative humidity by ASTM F2170 or green concrete, typically 7 to 10 days old; Sherwin-Williams rates its Poly-Crete MD for "moisture levels up to 99% RH." Where a kitchen cannot close for days, the MMA systems in the commercial section above are the other route. Restaurants appear on publication 94-116's list of nonresidential examples, and the Comptroller decides any question of tax on a given job.
Stained concrete for Cedar Park patios, porches and interior slabs
A stain colors the concrete in place and a sealer protects it, so on a Cedar Park patio or floor the slab you have, patches and cracks included, is the slab you will see. The prices are national only: HomeGuide's February 2026 survey lists acid-based staining at $3 to $25 a square foot and the water-based kind at $3 to $15 installed, and Angi's July 2026 page puts basic staining at $2 to $4 and intermediate work at $4 to $10; no survey we cite covers Cedar Park. The sealer is a separate choice: Angi's rows for sealing over stain run $0.85 to $1.15 a square foot for acrylic, $3 to $7 for epoxy and $0.95 to $1.10 for polyurethane. Our stained concrete floors page compares the stains.
Efflorescence is one thing a stain will not cover. Euclid Chemical says it forms when water moving through concrete picks up salts and leaves them on the surface, and that the secondary kind comes mainly from rain, irrigation or the surrounding soils; it adds that "Diverting moisture away from the slab helps as well." Sealers wear out: HomeGuide says stained concrete should be sealed every 1 to 3 years, and an H&C sealer sheet warns that sealed surfaces "may be slippery when wet." The City's permit lists do not mention staining or slabs, so ask its building office before work starts. We tell you which cracks and patches will stay visible in the finished color.
Polished concrete for Cedar Park offices, campuses and slab homes
Polishing refines the slab you already have, cracks and patches included, so it fits a sound interior floor better than a pitted or stained garage. The ASCC Concrete Polishing Council grades the finish in four gloss levels, from Level 1, flat, with a distinctness-of-image reading of 0 to 9, to Level 4, highly polished, above 70, and its aggregate exposure chart runs from Class A, the cream finish, to Class C, full aggregate. Angi's July 2026 survey prices a matte finish at $2 to $6 a square foot, semi-glossy at $3 to $8 and glossy at $8 to $15, and says each extra grind adds $3 to $5, national figures with no Cedar Park row. Our polished concrete floors page walks through the grit steps.
Before we quote a polish we test the surface, because ACI 310.1-20 Section 3.1.4.1, as the Council quotes it, calls for "Mohs Hardness measured on slab surface is greater than 4," and the Council names a densifier, to raise surface hardness, as one remedy for a weak slab. PROSOCO's sheet for its lithium densifier warns that "acid concentrates and acidic foods may etch the floor and leave a residual stain," which matters in kitchens and dining rooms. Upkeep is simple but daily; the 2009 Concrete International article the ASCC hosts calls for daily dust mopping and warns off cleaners "that are highly alkaline or acidic." Our grinders run with the dust collection that federal OSHA's 29 CFR 1926.1153 names for floor grinders.
Concrete resurfacing for worn Cedar Park garage floors and patios
A resurfacer gives a worn but sound slab a new wearing surface for the coating, stain or polish that follows, and in Central Texas summers the curing rules matter as much as the thickness. CTS Cement's sheet for Rapid Set NewCrete describes a polymer-modified mortar typically laid from a skim coat to 1/8 inch, ready for foot traffic after 2 to 3 hours at the soonest and for driving after 4 to 8, and it tells installers that "In dry, windy or hot conditions," the surface must be misted and kept wet until the mortar gains strength. SikaQuick Concrete Resurfacer wants CSP 3 as its minimum profile and moist curing as soon as finishing ends. Our concrete resurfacing page covers patches and toppings.
Movement sets the limit. NRMCA says most random cracks that appear early "rarely affect the structural integrity or the service life of concrete," but ARDEX warns on its K 301 sheet that "Thinly applied, non-structural overlays are not capable of restraining movement in the structural slab." A slab that heaves or sinks needs lifting or replacing first; the Iowa State pavement guide describes slab jacking as raising settled slabs by injecting grout or polyurethane, and HomeGuide's February 2026 page prices mudjacking at $3 to $6 a square foot and foam leveling at $5 to $25. For a sound slab, the same national page gives resurfacing an average of $500 per 100 square feet, within an average range of $300 to $700.
Cedar Park floor coating questions
How much does epoxy flooring cost in Cedar Park?
Only national survey figures exist; none of the surveys we cite prices Cedar Park. At HomeGuide's national February 2026 rate of $4 to $10 per square foot, the arithmetic for a 20 by 20 two-car garage, 400 square feet in all, gives $1,600 at the low end and $4,000 at the high end, before repairs. Angi's August 2026 page gives $2 to $12 a square foot and says resin type, floor size and preparation drive most of the cost. Small jobs can carry minimum charges, so that arithmetic understates small rooms; our garage floor cost page shows the working.
Does Cedar Park require a permit for an epoxy garage floor?
The City's lists do not answer it, so ask before work starts. Cedar Park's permit-questions page requires a permit "for any construction which physically changes or adds structures to the property," and its no-permit list names house painting, carpet and cabinets but not tile, coatings or slabs. The page calls its lists incomplete and asks owners to confirm with the City's office before starting. The permit list it does print includes remodels that move interior walls or touch electrical, mechanical or plumbing work.
Does the Edwards Aquifer change how a floor is prepared in Cedar Park?
Our sources name no aquifer rule for coating a floor, but they explain the care we take. The City of Cedar Park says a majority of the city lies in the Edwards Aquifer's recharge or contributing zone, and the Texas Water Development Board says the Edwards (Balcones Fault Zone) Aquifer consists primarily of partially dissolved limestone, made more vulnerable to contamination by rapid recharge. We grind with diamond tooling and dust collection rather than etching, whose acid solution Sherwin-Williams says many local and federal agencies restrict from being washed down floor drains. For site work beyond the floor, start with the City's stormwater page and TCEQ's guide RG-011.
Can a garage floor be coated in Cedar Park in August?
Yes, when the readings fall inside the data sheet's window, which the air and the slab decide, not the calendar. Westcoat's EC-36 epoxy is not to be applied "below 50 degrees F or above 90 degrees F," and Citadel's Polyurea-350 base coat takes air, material and floor between 0 and 90 degrees F, while NOAA's normal August high for Camp Mabry, an Austin station, is 97.8 degrees F of outdoor air, not a Cedar Park slab reading. Sherwin-Williams advises sealing coats when the substrate is warmest and its temperature will be decreasing, to limit outgassing. Our epoxy pros and cons guide covers heat in more depth.
Is it worth getting your garage floor coated?
It can be, when the slab is sound and its moisture reading suits the system; a slab that moves, or passes more moisture than the system's limit, is a poor candidate. Rust-Oleum's own comparison says an epoxy coating "provides greater protection than garage floor paint," while HomeAdvisor's June 2026 page says epoxy floors "don't raise a home's formal appraisal value," though a finished surface may appeal to buyers. Stonhard ties a floor's life to choosing the right system and using and cleaning it properly, and none of our sources gives an independent figure in years.
Other towns we coat floors in
Leander, Round Rock and Lakeway keep their own building departments, permit wording and Census housing counts, and each page quotes its own town rather than Cedar Park. Choose Austin for our home page, which covers the City of Austin's own rules and its 2024 code adoption.
